Cellular Repair
Electromagnetic pulses may stimulate ion exchange across cell membranes and support mitochondrial function, helping cells repair and regenerate more effectively.
Included in Every Clinic Session
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy may help reduce inflammation, ease pain and support your body's natural healing at a cellular level β included at no extra cost in every clinic session at our Prospect clinic.
PEMF delivers gentle electromagnetic pulses that penetrate deep into tissue, stimulating cellular repair and supporting the body's natural healing processes.
Electromagnetic pulses may stimulate ion exchange across cell membranes and support mitochondrial function, helping cells repair and regenerate more effectively.
Research suggests PEMF may help reduce pain intensity in musculoskeletal conditions by modifying nitric oxide signalling pathways and reducing nerve sensitivity.
PEMF may help regulate the inflammatory response at a cellular level, potentially easing swelling and tissue irritation associated with chronic and acute conditions.
By supporting angiogenesis and microvascular function, PEMF may help improve blood flow to damaged tissues, delivering oxygen and nutrients where they're needed most.
Originally approved for non-union fractures, PEMF has a long history of supporting bone repair and may also benefit soft tissue recovery from sprains, strains and surgery.
Emerging research suggests PEMF may help calm overactive neural pathways, potentially supporting recovery in conditions involving neuropathic pain or central sensitisation.
Better Together
Because PEMF may help reduce inflammation and support tissue repair at a cellular level, it complements our signature hands-on approach. During your session, you lie on a comfortable PEMF mat while your clinician delivers precise manual therapy β so you receive both therapies simultaneously.
PEMF at Physio Now isn't one-size-fits-all. We run two complementary systems, chosen and dosed by your clinician to suit your presentation.
A mat designed for whole-body coverage. It runs quietly in the background while your clinician delivers hands-on therapy, so your whole system receives gentle PEMF at the same time — without adding a minute to your session.
A higher-powered applicator device used on specific areas of the body where indicated — a stubborn joint, tendon or tissue region. Your clinician selects from its built-in protocols to match the area being addressed.
PEMF therapy has been studied for decades and continues to build an evidence base across multiple areas of musculoskeletal health and rehabilitation.
PEMF therapy delivers controlled electromagnetic pulses to targeted areas of the body. These pulses penetrate deep into tissue and interact with cells in several ways:
PEMF therapy is available as part of your regular clinic sessions. Here's how to begin.
Book online, call us, or submit a referral. If you're a new client, we'll guide you through our intake process.
Your clinician conducts a thorough assessment and discusses whether PEMF is appropriate for your condition and goals.
Before your first PEMF session, we complete a detailed risk assessment to confirm suitability and rule out any contraindications.
Start receiving PEMF alongside your hands-on therapy. Your clinician monitors comfort and adjusts parameters each session.
Common questions about PEMF therapy at Physio Now.
PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy is a non-invasive therapy that uses controlled electromagnetic pulses to stimulate and support the body's natural healing processes. It may help reduce pain and inflammation while promoting cellular repair and improved circulation. PEMF has been used clinically since 1979 when it was first approved for non-union bone fractures.
During your session, you lie on a comfortable PEMF mat while receiving hands-on therapy from your physiotherapist. The electromagnetic pulses penetrate deep into tissue, interacting with cells to stimulate ion exchange across cell membranes, support mitochondrial function and modify inflammatory and pain signalling pathways. The therapy is delivered simultaneously with manual therapy so you benefit from both approaches in a single session.
PEMF therapy is generally considered safe for most people. However, it is an optional therapy and we conduct a comprehensive risk assessment before starting to ensure suitability. Some contraindications β including pregnancy, pacemakers and certain implants β may make PEMF unsuitable for certain individuals. Your clinician will discuss this with you in detail before proceeding.
No. PEMF therapy is painless. Most clients report feeling a mild tingling or pulsing sensation during the session, which is generally well tolerated. Your clinician checks in with you throughout the session and adjusts the parameters to ensure your comfort.
PEMF therapy is well tolerated by most clients with minimal side effects. Some individuals may experience mild discomfort or tingling during or after the session, but these sensations typically subside quickly. Your clinician will tailor the parameters to your comfort level throughout.
Sessions are from 40 minutes in length. The PEMF device runs in the background while your clinician delivers hands-on therapy, so you receive both therapies simultaneously. Your clinician tailors the PEMF dosage to help support the best possible outcome for your condition.
Yes. Physio Now includes PEMF therapy at no extra cost for every clinic session at our Prospect clinic. Prior to proceeding, all clients complete a detailed risk assessment with their clinician to confirm suitability. There are no additional fees or add-on charges.
PEMF has been studied across a range of conditions including chronic pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, acute injuries such as sprains and strains, post-surgical recovery, sports injuries, joint and muscle stiffness, inflammation-related conditions, neuropathic pain and poor circulation. Your clinician will assess whether PEMF is appropriate for your specific situation during your initial assessment.
Absolutely. PEMF is entirely optional. If you prefer not to use it, or if the risk assessment identifies a contraindication, your session continues with hands-on therapy only β no change to your session length or fee. Just let your clinician know your preference.
At this stage, no. PEMF therapy is delivered alongside hands-on physiotherapy as part of your standard session. We believe the combination of manual therapy and PEMF provides a more comprehensive approach than either therapy alone.
Yes. PEMF therapy has been studied for decades, with over 900 published articles on PubMed. A 2025 multicentre randomised controlled trial reported a 36% mean pain reduction in the PEMF group compared to 10% in standard care, along with a 55% reduction in pain medication use. Research continues across areas including osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries, nerve regeneration and shoulder conditions. While further large-scale trials are ongoing, the current evidence base supports PEMF as a non-invasive adjunct to physiotherapy.
